Craig grew up primarily in suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota. He met his wife Laurel at Bethel College in St. Paul, and they were married while he was attending Trinity Evangelical Divinity School just north of Chicago (where his wife grew up) in Deerfield, Illinois. He earned his M.Div. at Trinity and a Doctor of Ministry degree at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida.
