Edgar Wood

Within a few weeks of his conversion at the age of 18 he was involved in the Strict Baptist Open Air Mission visiting his home church in Chelmsford. Whitsuntide of the same year saw him with the Open Air team in the Belvedere district. For most of the period 1934 1944 he led the Baptist witness in Sutton-at-Hone.

Edgar Wood was called to the pastorate at what is now known as Free Grace Baptist in Belvedere, Kent in May 1944 at the age of 36. He served his Lord here as pastor up the the time of his homecall in 1980. He was well known by many as he evidently was an active participant at doctors meetings at Westminster Chapel. During his latter years his ministry was somewhat affected by the medication he was on for cancer. Sitting in the pew one often felt his urgency in pressing the gospel from a dying man to dying men.
