"Crossing over to Rest"–Part I
Series Book of Joshua
28
God leads the second generation across the Jordan River. Chapter 3 forms the first part of this account. God graciously displays for Joshua and Israel the power that He exercised in the Exodus crossing of the Red Sea. In this account, we are confronted again with God's power and our own weakness. We cannot save ourselves. We cannot get rest for ourselves. But God acts and, in His acts, He reveals His mighty power to save and redeem us. Jesus Christ accomplishes this salvation for us in history and in time but even before the coming of Christ, God was already preparing Israel and the world for the recognition that God's power and mercy work for His glory and the good of those who trust in Him.
