God's Economy #15: Worry

42

Jesus knows that we worry about many things. In Luke 12, he points to one of our weakest areas, where we are most prone to worry: things that are related to money. There are many reasons to worry. And the fact that life is so uncertain makes it easy to slip and fall. But then Jesus surprises us. He doesn't address life's uncertainty as a cause of our worry. Instead, he points to the sin of greed and misplaced treasures.

The theme of greed runs through this passage. There are three types of greed: 1. Covetous greed – the person who had the audacity to interrupt Jesus was afflicted with covetous greed. He wanted his inheritance! 2. Complacent greed – this was a man who had built his barns with no thought of others or his soul. 3. Anxious greed – this is what we see in verses 22-34: I want something I might not get, so I worry.

Christ then gives us seven reasons why we should not worry, using examples from His creation – ravens, barns, lilies, and cubits.
