Kingdom Freedom

64

Theme: God is glorified when people are loosed from Satan's power and granted freedom in Christ. In vv. 10-11, we are introduced to a woman in bondage. Luke notates that she had a disabling spirit. In application, we need to recognize spiritual bondage. We battle against unseen spiritual enemies (Eph. 6:12).
In vv. 12-13, we see Jesus' grace and power displayed. Jesus, taking the initiative, sees and calls this woman, and with the power of His Word, declares her to be free, laying His hands on her. He wasn't made unclean by touching a sick person, but He made the sick person clean. She was immediately healed and glorified God. In application, we need to use our freedom in Christ properly to glorify God. In vv. 14-17, we find the people's varied responses. The ruler of the synagogue was indignant. Jesus rebukes the leaders for their hypocrisy and legalism, and the people rejoice. In application, we need to respond in faith to God with thankfulness and joy.
God overcomes the temporary evil by healing. Those in Christ have the promise of permanent healing. One day there will be a permanent healing from sin, and He will recreate things to the way they are supposed to be, for His glory. Will you thank God for what He has done and will do?
