Disciples on Mission

Theme: Jesus uses the weak but equipped to reach people for His glory.
In vv. 1-2, we see the empowerment Jesus gives to His disciples. While this particular empowerment was specific to the twelve, we can learn the principles of preaching a pure gospel, and doing good works to be a testimony to others, while depending on God for the power to do so. God calls the weak to do hard things, so that His power can be manifest. In vv. 3-5, we see Jesus's instruction. Again, though these instructions were specific to the twelve, we can learn some principles. Travel light in this world, so that you can focus on God's Kingdom and you can depend on God for your needs. In v. 6, we see the disciples' obedience. We need to take Jesus's mission seriously. It isn't just an option for us to consider, but one that we must obey. Every day we need to determine that we are going to take seriously the commands of Christ to reach others for Him and be committed to Him. Oftentimes this will be outside of our comfort zone, but when we are weak, in His power we are strong!
