Theme: Followers of Christ must take seriously the teachings of Jesus and share the truth with others.
In the context of this passage, Jesus is using this metaphor of light to teach that He is the light, and His Word is the light. People need to carefully listen lest they become like the three unfruitful soils. We need to seek to be changed by the light of God's truth and then share the truth with others. Secondly, we need to realize there is a judgment and urge others to be saved, while living our lives knowing that only what is done for Christ will last. Thirdly, we need to steward the truth well, treasuring God's Word and allowing it to transform us.
