Blessed are the Merciful

Mercy, we learn, is part of God's own character. Here we learn about aspects of the mercy that is required of us. After all, if we would know mercy we are to show mercy. Dr. Needham also gives consideration to the important theme of forgiveness, and contends that our enjoyment of God's mercy depends upon our mercy to others. However, he also contemplates whether forgiveness depends upon the other persons repentance, and is therefore conditional. We are asked to meditate upon the fact of how God has been merciful to us in Christ, revealing God's remedy for sin.
