Old Testament Messianic Prophecies Part 1

139

Gavin says, "Article 35 of the Anglican 39 Articles, … says … 'And this faith … believeth that all that is spoken of God in the Bible is true … . For the very sure & lively Christian faith is not only to believe all things of God which are contained in holy Scripture, but also to have an earnest trust & confidence in God …, & that he will be merciful unto us for his only Son's sake … in whose only merits, oblation, & suffering we do trust that our offences be continually washed & purged, whensoever we, repenting truly, do return to him with our whole heart … through his grace to obey & serve him in keeping his commandments … . For it is written,' 'Hab[akkuk] 2,' 'THE JUST MAN DOTH LIVE BY HIS FAITH ...' ... this Homily repeatedly makes reference to the authority & infallibility of Holy Scripture ... . And in these 2 sermons … I'll be commencing an ongoing series of sermons on Old Testament Messianic prophecy, … the evidential apologetics broad theme of which in finding fulfillments of such prophecies in Christ, shall be that these prophecies are a clear evidence of the Divine Inspiration of Holy Scripture, as well as the claims of Jesus Christ found in the New Testament; & thus these Old Testament Messianic prophecies are an important evidential proof for the absolute reliability & authority .... of the religiously conservative Protestant Christian's infallible Holy Bible as the authoritative revelation of Almighty God to mankind. In today's 2 sermons … we shall be considering the fulfilments found in Jesus Christ in the New Testament in St. Matthew 1 to 3, of 1stly, in Old Testament Messianic prophecies in Isaiah 7 & 9 with special reference to Isaiah 7:4,14, & 9:6."
