The Extravagant Grace of a Father

Theme: The Lord is a seeking God who rejoices when His people repent, and His disciples should aspire to seek and rejoice as well.
Continuing to speak to the Pharisees, Jesus gives the parable of a man with two sons. In vv. 11-24, the younger son's rebellion and repentance are described, as well as the father's extravagant grace and forgiveness. In vv. 25-30, the response of the elder brother, who was symbolic of the Pharisees and Scribes, was told. In vv. 31-32, we see the father's tender response. In application, be humbly grateful for God's awakening power, meditate on the Father's extravagant grace and love, don't be prideful even toward the proud, don't give up on those who are lost--pray and watch, and be joyful for God's grace to His people.
