The Synod of Dort (1) - A Contentious Event
Series Church History & Biography
1,964
The Synod of Dort has been described both as a ‘contentious event’ but also one of the greatest ‘councils’ for the definition of important theological terms and principles. The participants deliberated for eight months, beginning in November 1618.
This year sees the 400th anniversary of a dispute that clarified crucial concepts for subsequent generations of the gulf between Arminianism and Calvinism.
This first session examines the main people involved and theological differences that led up to the synod being called.
