The hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" is one of the oldest hymns found in most of our songbooks. It is a song that is often sung in the Christmas season. However, there are phrases in each verse that are about as familiar to us as figgy pudding. Statements about the Root of Jesse and the Key of David are things that most Christians have no idea what they mean or even where they come from.
