The name Boaz means “friend” or “in him is strength.” He is the kinsman-redeemer in this historiacl account. The kinsman-redeemer is a central theme of the whole book of Ruth. We must understand what this is. Boaz serves as a type of Christ, our Kinsman-redeemer. The love that Boaz has for Ruth pictures the love that Christ has for His church.
