The Bible is Alive
Series 2 Timothy
The Bible is the living word of God, breathed by Him, and able to give life and also to kill. 2 Tim. 1:5 describes how Timothy's mother and grandmother were both believers; however, there is never any mention that his father was. Thus we see that one parent was able to fulfill her child's need for spiritual instruction. It is important for parents to instruct their children in the things of God, starting at an early age. We never know how much time we will have, and children can understand many things before they are even able to speak. If they are not getting instruction from the Word, they will be getting it from the world. Paul instructs Timothy to continue in the things of the Word that he learned when he was young. The scriptures are sacred, and in their entirety profitable. Timothy came to faith through the Old Testament. Our trust must be in Christ, for apart from Him our reading and studying of His word will be of no avail. The Bible alone is our guide to Salvation, and it is by the hearing of it that faith is obtained. All scripture is God-breathed, and this statement alone would settle many controversies and problems. It is living and active, and endures forever. It can kill as well. We must be daily in the Word, and putting it before all other books.
