Love Is Better Than Duty

Nobel Prize winning physicist Albert Einstein once said "Love is a better teacher than duty." Theologian John Piper teaches a very similar theme in his book "Future Grace" where he warns against the "Debtor's Ethic" that seeks to pay God back for something that is a gift. Jesus said, "If you love me you will keep my commandments." Obedience is not the CAUSE of salvation, it is the result of it. We follow Christ because of love, not duty. The agnostic Einstein had a kernel of truth, but it did not lead him to Christ. Only Divine grace could do that.
