Low places point to our weakness and illuminate God's strength. Centering your life in Jesus Christ will bring balance and stability in your life. Being Christ-centered is the issue that we will address in this Bible Study. What can a person do to keep the Lord at the center of his or her life? We are now going to direct our attention to twin mountains that were at the very center of the Promised Land, forty miles north of Jerusalem. Mt. Ebal "bare" or "baldy" and Mt. Gerizim "cut off ones" Mt. Ebal means "Heap of Barrenness and is called the Mountain of Cursing or Judgment. Mt. Gerizim means "fruitful place" and is referred to as the Mountain of Blessing. They are separated by a narrow, fertile valley about five hundred yards wide and three miles long, in which stands the town of Shechem. Mount Ebal is to the north of the valley, and Mt. Gerizim to the south. These two mountains played a huge role in the early history of Israel and the Samaritan people. Abram, Jacob, Joshua and Rehoboam all went to the land at Shechem and worshiped God to receive help in a High Place.
