Kept by the Power of God

Before Peter gets to his big theme of joy in suffering he first has to lay the groundwork of hope. So he talks about our inheritance/salvation being imperishable, undefilable, and unfading (unlike anything in this world). And not only is our inheritance kept for us, we are kept for it. God preserves us by means of our faith.
