The Sanctity of Marriage

123 ( 90 | 33 )

This evening we look at a case law involving the seventh commandment, "thou shalt not commit adultery" and the occasions in Israel when there is practiced immorality in the home between a husband and a wife. The first instance being when a husband practices cruelty to his new bride, the second when a spouse cheats, when an engaged woman is taken advantage of and does not cry out for help the both are responsible, and if there is no help then the only the attacking man, and then lastly incest is strictly forbidden. None of these cases are pleasant, easy, or merely hypothetical because the sinfulness of men knows no boundaries, especially sexual sin. In all of this the call for Israel is the same - purge the evil from your midst. This is not a call to be legalistic, but rather punish sin where it is found, both as an act of judgment and of deterrent from others who might be enticed to commit the same sins. See that all sins deserve death, but in Christ there is forgiveness.
