Seaking Treasure

84

So many have heard a plastic version of the gospel for so long that when they read a scripture about giving up your life they explain it away. When hard times hit, they wonder how God could fail them. He does not fail. We often just fail to understand who He has called us to be.

These folks will not stand firm when trouble comes. The foundation is not there. The foundation is based on this cultural American gospel, not the one that speaks of suffering and sacrifice. The one that is shown in scripture.

Does that sound depressing? If it does, then once again we might be too worldly minded. I know I have been. What do we cling to? What are we really afraid of losing? That might tell us where our treasure is.
What about the Kingdom of God? Is that our priority? God has done some pretty dramatic things in the advancement of His Kingdom. Some of the greatest advancements of the Gospel have come through times of great suffering among the church.

I'm not saying we should long to suffer or be abused. I am saying we need to be will-

ing. We need to desire the Kingdom first. Whatever is best for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. That can be hard. God's ways are not our ways.
