Preaching of John The Baptist

76 ( 47 | 29 )

Luke 3:2-3: "...the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. And he came unto all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;"

John the Baptist and his preaching.

  1. The Man - He was known as "John the Baptist" or the 'baptizer'.
    a) A Man in History.
  • The God who superintends all of history, is pleased at certain times to step into history. So we can have confidence that in dark times, there is still light.
    b) A Man in Prophecy.
  • Isaiah 40:3 = Luke 3:4
  • Prophecy in Isaiah 40, becomes history in Luke 3
  • John is the 'preparer' for Jesus.
    c) A Man in His Ministry.
  • He is a prophet.
  • The method he used was preaching. But not only the announcement of facts, but his preaching was bold, challenging and direct.
  1. The Message - Luke 3:3 - "...preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;"
    a) The Message is Unchanging - Sin brings death, and sin brings eternal wrath.
    b) The Result of Turning to Repentance.
    c) The Reality of the Repentance.
  • Sorry is not the same as true repentance.
    d) The Fruits of Repentance.
  • Repentance comes with evidence.
