The Voluntary Sufferings of Jehovah's Servant

36

This seventh verse of this chapter brings before us a new theme with respect to the sufferings of Jehovah's Servant. The new aspect is the voluntary nature of these intense sufferings of Jehovah's Servant. These sufferings are remarkable for their intensity but they are also remarkable for their voluntary nature. Jehovah's Servant will willingly submit Himself to these sufferings that are past imagination.

Thus far in this wonderful passage we have considered:
Ch 52:13-15 - An introduction to Jehovah's Servant.
Ch 53:1 - Gross indifference to Jehovah's Servant
Ch 53:2 - The lowly origins of Jehovah's Servant
Ch 53:3 - Blindness to the beauty of Jehovah's Servant
Ch 53:4 - Deep seated hostility towards Jehovah's Servant
Ch 53:5-6 - The awareness, essence and necessity of His vicarious atonement.
Next this new theme is developed - Jehovah's Servant will suffer voluntarily.

Within this very special passage, this is a very special verse.
[1] These words led to the conversion of the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8:32-. They are saving words!
[2] Peter makes reference to these words, 1 Peter 2;21-24. These are encouraging words!
