What are vacations for? From 1 Kings 5 we see that God gives rest so that we would worship Him. Solomon used his God-given rest to build the temple for God's worship. He did not, however, allow the people to continue to enjoy that rest. For true rest, look to Jesus, not to Solomon or to any political figure.
