TEXT: 1 Kings 17:1; 18:1-18

SUMMARY: Ahab hardens himself against the Lord, in the face of a direct confrontation by God’s messenger and the complete failure of his own false trusts.

I. AHAB HARDENS HIMSELF DESPITE A DIRECT CONFRONTATION BY GOD'S MESSENGER.
A. His Manifestation was Mysterious.

  1. Mysterious in his character.
  2. Mysterious in his descent.
  3. Mysterious in his physical appearance.
  4. Mysterious in the boldness of his demeanor.

B. His Message was Plain and Simple

  1. Jehovah lives!
  2. Jehovah rules!

C. The Response was Inadequate.

II. AHAB HARDENS HIMSELF DESPITE THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF HIS OWN FALSE TRUSTS.
A. He Trusted in His Own Authority Rather than in Jehovah’s.

B. He Trusted in His Own Efforts to solve his problem, rather than in seeking the face of God.

PRINCIPLE: Those who despise the chastening of the LORD, and detest His correction, are not wise. (Prov. 3:11)
