A Foolish Ruler and A Foolish Oath
99
Herod Antipas was a pathetic figure in the Bible. Here was a man who enjoyed listening to John the Baptist and yet would have him beheaded to appear not a man of his word to those present at his birthday party. Herod is an example of a weak, cowardly ruler who Jesus would refer to as a 'fox.' Herod felt compelled to keep an ungodly oath, which he never should have kept.
