As many of you know, Christians will mark the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation this fall, on October 31, 2017. Historians mark the date in 1517 that Martin Luther posted his 95 theses, protesting the Roman Catholic practice of indulgences. Luther’s courageous act launched events throughout Europe that restored biblical Christianity and literally changed the course of human history.

We can expect to see different articles and social media blitzes this fall as the day approaches. Some of you are familiar with your church history; perhaps a few innocently ask, “Martin Who?”

No matter where you fall on that spectrum, I have a book recommendation for you.

The book is The Reformation: How a Monk and a Mallet Changed the World by Stephen Nichols. Coming in at just over 150 pages, it is an informative and highly readable account of the various men (and women) who contributed to the Reformation in different countries.

You can easily get through it in a day or two if you wish. It will give you an overview perspective that will serve your Christian life well and also increase your discernment about the times in which we live. I read it this week and had trouble putting it down.

The issues that drove the Reformation still matter today and they certainly affect our doctrine and practice at Truth Community Church. I encourage you to read this book to get a perspective on the faith we preach that was once for all delivered to the saints.
