2. The Fallen Conscience

110

The conscience has been called 'the voice of God'. It is, some argue, what makes humanity unique from all other creatures. However, in the Garden, another 'voice' entered the scene, and there are now many voices vying for our attention. Together with this, our fallen and guilty consciences now respond to the voice and presence of God with fear. The communion we once shared with God and one another has been lost. However, in the gospel, by the blood of Christ, our consciences have been cleansed and purified. Our sin and guilt have been atoned. And so, we can once more enjoy communion with God and with one another, without fear. What delight and freedom there is, in knowing our consciences have been cleansed from all our guilt and dead works so that we might serve the living God.
