Don't Just Do Something, Stand There!

Don’t Just Do Something, Stand There!
Jack Nicklaus knew – to be the best, he had to have the most pure basic swing. He did not need something new.

Paul wants us to know the same thing. Jesus has done everything for you, to be perfected all you must do is continue in him.

He has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.

(Colossians 1:22-23 ESV)

  1. Why don’t we stand there?

A. We get dissatisfied with ourselves.

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, (Colossians 2:13 ESV)

B. We get dissatisfied with the Church

Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. (Colossians 2:16-17 ESV)

C. We get afraid for our futures and want more security

These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh. (Colossians 2:23 ESV)

  1. Why We Can Stand.

A. Christ lived and died for us.

B. Christ wants us.
