The Shepherd's sacrifice

The good Shepherd makes a willing sacrifice. He deliberately lays down his life.

He gives an incalculable gift: he gives his very life.

He bestows an undeserved blessing - he lays down his life for sheep whom he loves despite their wanderings.

The heart of every saint ought to be made humble, thankful, and loving by such a sacrifice by such a Shepherd.
