God judged and destroyed his covenant people because they became complacent in their faith and corrupted his worship. He told Christians about this so they would move to a place of safety, and further, that they would guard themselves against the sins of the Jews.

Brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ:

1. God will protect you who listen to him because you are his. You are his through the sacrificial death of the Savior on the cross! Rejoice that you are his!

2. Rely upon God’s Word! It is the only way you will be safe. Read it. Believe it. Live it! Even when the world mocks what you do, don’t give up. Reject the lie of the world. Only God’s Word is absolute truth!

3. The wicked will not escape God’s judgment (and the destruction of Jerusalem proves that), regardless how much they deny that it will happen. Pity them. Pray for them. Preach to them.
