In Colossians 2:20-23 Paul teaches us how to live a life dependent upon and focused on Christ by reminding us of our identification with Christ in His death. If we have died with Christ to the world, then why live as if we are alive to the world? And why submit to the world's regulations which will all perish, which are according to human precepts and teachings, and which may look wise, but are worthless in our pursuit of holiness?
