Freedom from Exploitation Day

18 ( 12 | 6 )

Labor Day is about freedom. It is about the freedom to choose how we will live without coercion. Labor Day was intended to memorialize freedom from exploitation in the work place. But freedom in every place at all times is the goal.
Some say that the account of Ananias and Sapphira shows the church is socialistic. This is not true. There was no exploitation or coercion. No one was forced to sell their possessions They were not forced to give all or any of the proceeds from the sale of their possessions to the church.
Jesus came to give freedom. He gives us the freedom to choose. He gives those who believe His message freedom from bondage to sin. He gives us freedom to serve Him in His church. He gives us freedom to choose honesty rather than dishonesty, to choose modesty rather than immodesty, to choose what you will believe, and what you will do with your life.
The church Jesus built is about His message of freedom. It is a message that springs from the fountain of truth. It is a message possible only because of truth.
What has truth to do with freedom? Knowing the truth allows you to choose the real consequences. There is no manipulation and no coercion with lies and deceit.
