The structure of the Book of Revelation in chapters 6-19 includes a unique narrative pattern with parenthetical insertions. These insertions serve as interludes, offering additional layers of understanding to the overarching prophetic message. Chapter 7, for instance, focuses on specific individuals, while Chapter 10 focuses on particular places. God strategically situates these chapters between a crucial series of events—Chapter 7 comes between the sixth and seventh seals, while Chapter 10 is inserted between the sixth and seventh trumpets.
While the reason behind this arrangement remains a matter of theological interpretation, recognizing its existence is critical for a nuanced understanding of the text.
The timing within these parenthetical sections can be somewhat puzzling. For instance, the reference to the seventh trumpet in Revelation 10:7 is prospective, making it difficult to ascertain the time that elapses between the sixth and seventh trumpets. Fortunately, Chapter 11 provides a clearer temporal frame of reference. Verses 2-7 indicate 42 months leading up to the appearance of the Beast from the Bottomless Pit, which happens at the mid-point of Daniel's Seventieth Week. Consequently, Chapter 10 introduces the ensuing seven-year period, while Revelation 11:1-13 covers events occurring in the first three-and-a-half years of this pivotal time. Those who teach a split-Tribulation extend the parenthetical chapter through Revelation 11:14. This is called forced eisegesis.
