The Lord Jesus Christ, and faith in Him, is the reason that we stand. It is not ourselves at all, so don't be proud about election, as if you're better than others or can stand in your own strength. Fear enough to trust God and depend on Him daily, moment by moment. Fear enough to experience the gospel, and He'll keep you all the way through.
