The Gospel of God

There are words in the English language which speak volumes: Illegal Alien, Computer Virus, 9/11. The Romans had similar “buzz” words, one of which was euangelion. This word was used in the Emperor Worship cult.

Thus the Christians at Rome were well-aware of euangelion. Now the opening verses of this epistle are appropriately devoted to discussing “Good News.” Yet the “Good News” which Paul is discussing was of an entirely different order than the trivial and vain proclamations concerning the emperors. The “Good News” which Paul is discussing is the good news of the LIVING and TRUE GOD! In Romans 1:1 we read about “the gospel of God.” Would you notice that God is the most important word in this epistle.
