Micah 1: Addressing Those Who Possess Political Power

Micah was sent to preach to Israel and Judah – the northern and southern kingdoms – after they had risen to heights of economic affluence – but had fallen into spiritual decadence.

Micah was a country boy so to speak who was called of God to bring His message to Israel. Micah addresses the two capitols of the two kingdoms. He addresses Samaria which was the capitol of the northern kingdom – and he addresses Jerusalem which was the capitol of the southern kingdom. Why the capitols in particular addressed – and why did the Lord send a country boy to preach to them?

The capitols embodied the place of power and wealth – as they often do in our day. Washington DC – the national capitol is utterly wicked – full of power and wealth. Madison – our state capitol here in Wisconsin – utterly wicked – full of power and wealth. And we could go from capitol to capitol across all the states of the nation and see the same thing.

When man rebels against God – he trusts in the arm of his own flesh – he trusts in the state. And capitols are where the statists gather. Capitols are where those who desire power gather. Capitols are where those who desire wealth via the teat of the state gather. 35 min. MercySeat.net
