Universal Church Vs. Local Churches

There is a debate among Christians regarding the definition and manifestation of the organism called "church."
Some Baptists believe in the universal and local churches. Others believe there is no universal church; only local churches.
I have friends on both side of the issue. It is not a doctrine that I break fellowship over.
We must look to the Scriptures to settle the debate.
