(27) A Mark of Nobility

75 ( 29 | 46 )

What does it mean to be noble? We might picture kings and queens wearing crowns seated on thrones. But Luke has another meaning when he says that his hearers in Berea were "more noble than those in Thessalonica" (17:12). The Bereans were nobler because they eagerly received and discerned God's word.

If God is "the King of the ages" (1 Tim. 1:17) a mark of nobility is recognizing and loving the king's voice. Sadly, many people who hear God speak mistake his word for the voice of a creature—they have ordinary hearing. Let's not hear like that. Let's learn from this story how to be noble by listening to God.
