Be Not Unequally Yoked

75

Paul here zeroes in on the main reason some of the Corinthians had not opened wide their hearts to Paul - they were "unequally yoked to unbelievers." The most likely problem was they were still worshipping in pagan temples and even having relations with temple prostitutes. Paul gives five examples of opposing forces in the world, such as darkness and light, which can have no fellowship. He emphasizes the absolute incompatibility of the temple of God with idols - the real temple here referring to the lives of believers who are in-dwelt with the Spirit of God. Because of this precious fact, believers in Yahweh, people of saving faith, cannot be joined philosophically and spiritually with those captured with enthrallment of Satan's kingdom. We rub shoulders with unbelievers but must reject their mindset and motivation which are contrary to the will of God. The Christian person must rid himself of all evil pollution and positively, seek to be holy as God is holy.
