Choosing Singleness and Celibacy Part 2
Series Marriage and Singleness
There is a vast difference between the way the Christian and the Worldling look at marriage and singleness. For the Christian singleness is a commitment to celibacy and marriage is a commitment to honour that covenant for better or worse until death.
The worldling tends to look on marriage as a potentially temporary state and singleness as a time to be sexually free.
The apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 7, shows a strong preference for singleness as a chosen state. In this second part of a two part sermon we consider the second reason he offers for why singleness is worthy to be considered as an intentional choice and why it may be seen as the better choice.
We also consider how the church carries responsibility for providing true family and intimacy to those who choose to remain single either for the purpose of serving Christ without distraction, or because they are choosing to obey God rather than pursue their own desires.
