God's Perfected Love

We will continue our preaching series through 1 John, from Chapter 4 verses 7 to 21, where John declares God himself to be the source and substance of true love - God is love. This flies in the face of many of the notions of love before us today. John makes it clear that any true and genuine love we have is not from us, but from God, and is evidence that we are born of God.
The wonder and truth of the love of God is firstly that it has been manifest among us in his Son, Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice for our sin; and secondly, that this same love is made complete in us, not simply when we receive it, but when it flows out from us in love for one another. God will ensure his love reaches its goal in us as we abide in him, giving us confidence before him now, and for the day of judgment, as his perfect love casts out fear.
