The Light of the World

10

LIGHT-- a phenomenon of nature that we take for granted, but something which is necessary for life. Without Light there would be no life. Darkness is the absence of light. And the world today is plunged into spiritual darkness-- darkness caused by rejection of the light everyone has received in creation and by the spiritual blindness due to the deception of Satan, the prince of darkness. But into this dark, dark world, Jesus came as the Light of the World. As the Light of the World, Jesus Christ is the personal, final, full revelation of God to man. He is God in the flesh, the incarnate Word. He was the TRUE Light, the Great Light, the anticipated Messiah who would be a light not only for the Jews but for the Gentiles as well. He gives light to every man. But as the Light of the World, Jesus Christ also expresses the holiness of God and exposes the sinfulness of man. He was the epitome of holiness and purity. SInless. He brought conviction upon sinful man. You might think that those in the dark would want to come to the light, but such is not the case. For men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil-- and if they come to the light they are exposed for who they truly are.
