The Duties of Parents

God-given duties to parents are clear, simple and counter-culture. Today's message zeros in on the expectations that God places on both fathers and mothers in the raising of their own families. Men were not to become OVERSEERS unless they had used their authority as parents to manage their own households well. Their accountability included their children being obedient (under control) and orderly (dignified). Their success with their children would transfer over into the assembly of the church. OLDER WOMEN were expected to be mature in their conduct, constraint, control and counsel. Their expected ministry of encouragement to younger women was to teach them to be devoted, dedicated, discreet, decent, domestic, dependable and dutiful. And the motive that constrained these women was to avoid dishonoring the word of God.
