The Biggest Mistake

In the beginning of this passage, the writer tells us that King Herod thought Jesus was John the Baptist who came back to life. Then we are looking back in the past so that we can better understand why Herod thought this. Some people respond to the truth with discomfort, others respond to truth in anger. In life, some somethings are wrong, and things that are crooked and they need fixing. Small problems can become worse by ignoring them. Ignoring the problem does not solve the problem. When we are doing something wrong, and what we did wrong is pointed out we are not to be foolish. We need to step in line with God’s word, the Bible. Herodias’s daughter could have had up to half of Herod’s kingdom. She did not know what to ask for and what she truly wanted was her mother’s approval. It is not worth sinning to please our parents or others. Sinning never fixes things and will never gain us approval with God. The biggest mistake of Herod’s life was not having John’s head cut off or marrying his brother’s wife. Herod’s biggest mistake was not recognizing who Jesus is. It is not bad to dance, but some dancing is wrong. Dancing designed to get people excited sexually is wrong and not honoring to the Lord. If we say no to all the sins of the world and don’t say yes to Jesus, we will still end up in Hell. We need to put our trust in Jesus and recognize who He is.
