Praying For Revival

121

Why is it so hard to get “up” for an annual “revival” meeting? Why do we see such a disappointing fall-away rate usually within one year? Why is there so little conviction of sin preceding or attending most professions of faith? Where have we gone wrong in our fundamental churches? Or is this what we should expect because we are in the “last days” of apostasy right before our Lord's return?

These are questions we must squarely face, and seek to answer, from God's Word. The Scriptures – both Old and New Testaments – contain many wonderful promises of gracious divine visitations upon the Church in the last days. And the history of repeated revivals since Pentecost shows us a pattern for effectual prayer that God would indeed once again “rend the heavens and come down.” Pentecost marked the beginning of a new era – the age of revivals!

Unless we understand the true nature of revival and the means that God sovereignly blesses to secure it, we will not have the heart and disposition to pray effectually for it. Is not the prize worth the price?
