Sermon
Lesson 4
Hebrews 2:5-9
But We See Jesus!
Main Idea: Look at Jesus—the son of man who suffered and died for us!
• God did not subject the world to come to angels (5)
He initially subjected the world to man (Ps 8:4-6; vv. 6-8a)
Man was made a little lower than the angels (Ps 8:5; v. 7a)
God crowned Adam with glory and honor (Ps 8:5; v. 7b, 8)
God placed everything under man’s control (v. 8)
• Man failed in that dominion (Rom 5:12)
He sinned against God (Rom 5:12)
His sin was passed down through all of mankind (Rom 5:12)
We all sinned in Adam (Rom 3:23)
• We do not now see everything subject to man (v. 8b)
We need another man—a better Adam!
A true Man
A representative Man who can rightfully exercise dominion
A second Adam who can deal with the sin of the first Adam
We have that true Man in Jesus—the God-Man
He was made for a little while lower than the angels (v. 9a)
He experienced the suffering of death for everyone (v. 9c)
He was crowned with glory and honor (v. 9b)
• We must look at Jesus to have our sins forgiven!
