A Tale of Two Wisdoms

James 3:13-18 teaches that our conduct reveals whether or not we are wise and understanding by comparing and contrasting the lives of those who exhibit two kinds of wisdom. 1) Those whose conduct is evil demonstrate their use of earthly wisdom: The source of earthly wisdom is Satan himself; the characteristics of earthly wisdom are bitter jealousy and selfish ambition; and the fruit of earthly wisdom is disorder and every vile practice. 2) Those whose conduct is godly demonstrate their use of God's wisdom: The source of God's wisdom is God Himself; the characteristics of God's wisdom are purity, peace, gentleness, mercy, impartiality, and sincerity; and the fruit of God's wisdom is peace.
