The Shellfish Smokescreen
Easily the most common – and the worst – argument against Biblical sexuality that I hear today is 'The Shellfish Subterfuge' ...
"Eating shellfish (or pork) and wearing a shirt with two kinds of thread are also forbidden in the book of Leviticus, but you don't follow those rules, do you? How then can you oppose homosexuality?"
This line is continuously recycled by atheists, gay rights activists, internet memes, television shows, etc..
However, this argument is so poor, and so readily refuted, that anyone with even a basic understanding of the Bible would not even try to float it.
To state their position again: the book of Leviticus condemns homosexuality, but also condemns eating shellfish and wearing certain types of clothing: if Christians were being consistent, they would either follow all of these laws, or none of them. Therefore when Christians point out homosexuality as a sin but do not view eating shellfish as an issue, they are 'cherry-picking' the Scriptures – picking and choosing what they want to follow and what they don't.
So, what is the answer? .....
