Amazing Grace: Life of John Newton, Author of the Hymn, and Object of the same Grace
“Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound,” is a hymn that has been sung by multitudes for more than 200 years. The one who wrote that song is one who truly understood the meaning of the words that he wrote. There are examples in history of God saving those whom you and I might consider hopeless cases. John Newton was one of them. Consumed by an ungodliness that made him infamous even among his fellow human beings, his life was in a tale spin. Involved in slave trafficking, John Newton had no scruples about profiting from others’ misery. But it was only when God opened Newton’s eyes to his own spiritual bondage, and gave him to see the way out of that bondage, that he learned by experience the wonder of God’s amazing grace. Come join us as we consider the Life of John Newton, and the amazing grace that alone saves even the most desperate sinners.
