Overcoming Temptation

432 ( 268 | 164 )

Directly after Jesus’ baptism, after God the Father said “This is My Son whom I am well pleased”; that is when the Devil came to tempt Jesus and question if He really was the Son of God. God the Holy Spirit, led Jesus to a place of testing. God did this to Joseph and He will do this for His people. We should not look for situations where we will be tempted, however, Jesus shows us how to act when we are tempted. After 40 days of fasting, Jesus is first tempted with food. Jesus was not only tempted to eat after 40 days of fasting but also tempted to validate that He is the Son of God. Jesus had been living on the word of God and models for us how our view of scripture should be. If we try to live without having Biblical authority, then it is like sawing off the limb of a tree that we are sitting on. We cannot seriously be a Christian without the believing the Bible. The Devil can quote the Bible, but he uses it to mislead and deceive. Jesus’ power came from His obedience to the Father. Satan wants to be in the place of God. Jesus gives us the tools we need to stand against the Devil. Once we submit ourselves to God, then we will resist the Devil and he will flee from us.
