Faith is a difficult task, in that God requires us to believe in things we have never seen. This difficulty increases when the things we see are so attractive and plentiful. Wealth makes the gospel seem unnecessary, as if the present life were the ideal and heaven only preferable to hell. Christ shows us that it is so very hard to let go of earth when it looks like heaven. Riches make it hard for a person to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
